Last night, I had the pleasure of interviewing Rod D. Martin to discuss the investigation taking place in the Southern Baptist Convention involving the alleged cover-up of sex abuse by the Executive Committee. In June, the messengers to the SBC annual meeting voted to carry out an investigation into the Executive Committee which, it turns out, was based on outlandish accusations made by Russell Moore, the former head of the SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. You can read about that at this link.

Prior to the annual meeting, Russell Moore “leaked” an internal letter to the press which made several serious allegations against the Southern Baptist Convention involving the Executive Committee covering up criminal sex abuse. Moore’s letter was presumably written two years ago and it stated that he was aware of these allegations at the time. However, as Rod Martin explains, if he knew of these allegations two years ago and didn’t report them to the police, he could be in serious legal trouble since he is a mandated reporter.

Since he didn’t report them to the police, Rod Martin explains that there are two options: either Moore committed a serious crime and could be in serious trouble, or Moore is a liar. At this point, it is not known, but either would be detrimental to him.
