SBC Seminary Chapel Speaker Says You Don’t Have “Full Gospel” Unless You Preach Sociology

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) has made headlines a while back when its president, Danny Akin announced that the seminary was hiring former Liberty University English and Literature professor, Karen Swallow Prior. The move struck a nerve with conservative Southern Baptists drawing criticism from many outlets, including Founders who have typically abstained from such controversy in the past.

But worse, SEBTS has been neck-deep in the false gospel of social justice for several years. One of its prominent professors, Walter Strickland, endorses and has embraced much of the Marxist ideology known as Critical Race Theory and has urged his students to read one its most notorious proponents, James Cone.

Of course, once you stick your neck in it, you drown–and that appears to be what’s happening before our eyes at this once-great Southern Baptist seminary.

James White, pastor of Christ Our King Community Church in Raleigh, NC, (not to be confused with Dr. James White, theologian of Alpha Omega Ministries), was invited to preach at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary chapel service in February where he preached that unless you preach sociology alongside the cross, you don’t actually have the full gospel.

“When you only preach necessary theological truths without sociological + practical realities, you got a cross gospel but you don’t have a full gospel, because the resurrection says there will be change. You cannot have theological truth w/o social impact.”

Yet, this contradicts what the Apostle Paul says the gospel is in 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 as the first importance, i.e., the full gospel:

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
