University of Houston Police Tell Preacher Campus is No Longer Public Because “Pandemic”

Ryan Denton of Christ in the Wild Ministries is a regular open air preacher on college and university campuses, particularly in his home state of Texas, and today at the University of Texas. Denton, who makes no bones about the exclusivity of Christ, the sinful state of man, and the need for repentance and salvation that can be found at the cross, is no stranger to heckling and harassment, even from police.

During his visit to University of Houston today, he was asked to leave by the campus police who proceeded to tell him that he wasn’t allowed to be there because we’re “dealing with a pandemic.” Unable to cite any law or ordinance, the officer conceded that the campus was “no longer public.”

Watch:

Of course, this is absurd on the face of it. Reformation Charlotte was unable to find any law or ordinance in Houston or the State of Texas that restricts public visitation on public property. Reformation Charlotte was unable to reach the campus police for comment.

Earlier this year, Denton sued the city of El Paso, TX, for restricting his First Amendment rights to preach in the open air at a market in the downtown area. Once again, citing laws and ordinances that didn’t exist, he was told he was not allowed to preach during that time because while the Market was set up, it was considered “private property.”

We would ask that you keep this ministry in your prayers as they face increasing resistance from the public for their work of proclaiming the name of Jesus among the nations.
