Rachel Held Evans, the progressive author and speaker, passed away at 37 on May 4, 2019 due to complications from an infection. She tragically left behind two very young children and her husband. Rachel Held Evans impacted the Christian community in many ways that will leave its mark for generations to come.

Held Evans stood in stark contrast to orthodox Biblical Christianity and challenged biblical beliefs at their core. She was a hero of the “progressive Christian” movement. Evans was a pro-LGBT, pro-abortion feminist who shook her fist at Jesus Christ Himself, practically daring Him to reign supreme over His own creation.

While Southern Baptist leaders are throwing money and campaigning fundraisers for Rachel Held Evans — an enemy of the cross — one can only imagine how many godly Christian mothers passed away over the same weekend that do not receive the same treatment. Held Evans gets this treatment because the progressive Christian movement feels the need to signal their virtue to a Pagan, God-hating world. Rachel Held Evans was anything but a godly, Christian mother and wife.

Held Evans denied one of the primary attributes of God — His masculinity. Whether or not Held Evans “liked” it, God chose to reveal Himself to humanity as male and we don’t have the freedom or authority to reassign gender to our creator. Evans would regularly blaspheme God in such ways as “God is not a man or a woman. God is spirit.” Of course God is spirit, but God is also a man as the Scripture repeatedly refers to Him as a man.

In one article Held Evans wrote, she actually referred to God as a female, writing, “And, because of today, because of the cross, it is a pain that God Herself understands.”

Held Evans also denied the doctrine of repentance. Held Evans, who believed she was a Christian, taught that one could continue in such sins as homosexuality and remain in right standing with God.

Of course, this is diametrically opposed to what the Scriptures actually say,

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Held Evans did not honor God but desired the approval of men — and that she received heartily as she promoted the issues the world loves. As an advocate for homosexuality, abortion, feminism, and practically any other godless ideology one can muster up from the pits of Hell, Held Evans would stand in the midst of an army of dead souls delivering her troops of thousands — if not millions — directly into the hands of the enemy.

Held Evans was a wolf in sheep’s clothing — and one of the most nefarious of them. She had a nice smile and a charming demeanor that would deceive anyone into believing she was on their side. Yet, she hated them. She hated homosexuals. She hated mothers facing the reality of murdering their children. She hated people and hated them with a smile. Held Evans hated them so much that she deceptively withheld the truth of God from them — lied to them through her teeth, and told them all that they were right with God.

Now, Rachel Held Evans herself has come face to face with God. She has now seen God. The Bible says to beware of false prophets and that we will know false prophets by their fruits and deeds (Matthew 7:15-20). Held Evans was clearly — by any biblically discernible standard — a false prophet. She lied to the world about God. I see no evidence that Held Evans ever repented of her blasphemy and hatred toward her creator. She was an idolater and a blasphemer — not just at heart, but in practice. Rachel often said “Lord, Lord,” and practiced her wickedness in His name. And sadly, this, the Bible teaches, will receive the eternal judgment of God.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Matthew 7:21-23

This is how Rachel Held Evans should be remembered by Christians. Not as someone who “challenged them to think,” but as a theological cancer that Satan used to deceived many into his hands.
