Lifeway, a Southern Baptist-owned bookstore, has been long exposed as one of the world’s top peddlers of heretical materials. Several years ago, Alex Malarkey, of the heaven tourism book, The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven, after months of trying to contact the retailer, released an open letter retracting his story, stating “I did not die. I did not go to Heaven. I said I went to heaven because I thought it would get
This opened a swath of criticism against Lifeway for their continued insistence on selling these unbiblical books. Lifeway has since pulled these heaven tourism books, however, one heretical book that Lifeway continues to peddle is Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling, and you can get it for 50% off this Christmas.
Jesus Calling is a new age book which Sarah Young claims that she knew Jesus communicated to her through the Bible, but that she “yearned for more.” In other words, in direct violation to 2 Tim 3:16-17, for Young, the Bible was insufficient and she needed further direct, divine revelation from God. She then claims that she was able to “tune in” to Jesus and write down everything He said.
Lifeway, as a Southern Baptist entity, continues to have no problem peddling this garbage to people. As a denomination that is fast falling from its biblical grounding, a need to continue to keep the cash flowing is at hand, and one way to do it is to sell what sells. And this trash sells.
