CHARLOTTE, NC –  As if the rosary isn’t blasphemous enough, a local online store is selling ‘rainbow rosaries’ which, according to their website, “directly impacts the refugee community in Charlotte.”

For what amounts to a necklace of middle fingers to God, purchases go to support Roman Catholic social justice organizations. This local shop touts “a living wage that is more that 3x the minimum wage in Charlotte.”

The Rosary of Modern Sorrows invites us into guided meditation on the pain and suffering of our brothers and sisters in the U.S. and around the world. Click through the photos to read the specific social justice intentions for each decade.

Made by Aline, Nziza, Jordan, and Christine: refugees from the Congo living in Charlotte, NC.

Thank you for your bravery and strength, and for choosing compassion when so many people have chosen not to reflect compassion back to you. Stay strong. . .real, authentic love makes the world go ’round.
