Wheaton College Student Body Leadership Says Pro-Life Speaker Made People of Color on Campus Feel ‘Unsafe’

Wheaton College recently hosted Ryan Bomberger, a pro-life and adoption advocate on campus to address, what he says is “a perspective that is rarely (or never) heard even on a Christian campus.”

The student body leadership, namely Lauren Rowley, Tyler Waaler, and Sammy Shields, President, VP, and EVP of Community Diversity (whatever that is) respectively, lashed out viciously in a letter at the campus’ Republicans efforts to promote a biblical and conservative ideology regarding abortion, race issues, and adoption.

The letter states,

As many of you know, a special interest club hosted an event on Wednesday night titled, “Black Lives Matter: In and Outside of the Womb”. The speaker of this event, Ryan Bomberger, made several comments at the event that deeply troubled members of our community. His comments, surrounding the topic of race, made many students, staff, and faculty of color feel unheard, underrepresented, and unsafe on our campus.

Bomberger responded to the letter,

Wheaton College Republicans invited me to deliver The Radiance Foundation’s powerful and thought-provoking “Black Lives Matter In and Out of the Womb” presentation with a lengthy Q&A that followed. The auditorium was packed with a diverse audience that was able to hear a perspective that is rarely (or never) heard even on a Christian campus.

I listened to the speech and personally heard nothing that should make anyone feel unsafe. He spoke strongly against abortion, including in the black community. If biblical speech makes one feel unsafe, maybe they shouldn’t be living on campus away from home.
